Copied from the scooter forum but procedure is the same:
If you plan on laying up your ride for the winter there are a few simple steps that you should take before doing so:
1. Purchase some gas stabilizer (available at any auto parts store, Walmart or probably even UDF). Follow the directions as to the amount to put in your tank. Put it in your tank and then fill your tank to the top with gas to properly mix it with the fuel. Then run (RIDE!!!) your scooter for at least 10-15 minutes to circulate the newly stabilized fuel throughout the system. The idea is to run it long enough so that the float bowl in the carb fills up with the stabilized gas; you don't want your carb to get all gummed up. Having a full tank of stabilized gas will also ensure that you tank doesn't develop any rust over the winter months.
2. Change the oil and run the engine for a few minutes to circulate the fresh oil around it. This will eliminate any moisture accumulated in the oil.
3. Wash your scooter. THOROUGHLY dry it off and then apply an automotive wax to all the bodywork.
4. When you have done both of the above items and have allowed the scooter to cool down spray some WD-40 on any of the exposed steel parts of your bike such as the exhaust pipe and header. This will put a rust preventative coating on these parts. In the summer whenyou start up your scoot the WD-40 will burn off within a few minutes. Any parts that don't get hot you can simply wipe down.
5. Remove the sparkplug and spary some WD-40 into the spark plug hole. Turn the engine over a couple of times with the sparkplug installed but disconnected. This will lightly coat the inside of your piston cylinder with a rust preventative coating. Again this will burn off when you start your scooter for the first time in the spring but will protect it during the lay-up.
6. Park it in the corner of your garage and throw a sheet over it!
That's it! If you do all of the above when spring rolls around your scoot should be ready to ride and looking good as soon as the weather warms up a bit!!!!
